Show H. R.Merrill Dies j Suddenly at Provo Harrison R. Merrill, 53, profes-j sor of journalism at the Brigham Young university and wellknowiv all over the west by reason of his writings and personal visits, died; at his home in Provo Saturday af-j ternon from complications which' followed an operation for appendi-j citis. Funeral services were held1 Wednesday in the Provo tabor-; nacle, attended by a large number of friends from Utah and other western states. A native of Smithfield, Utah, Mr. Merrill had endeared hiniselt to people everywhere with his in-; terest in prose and oetry writing. : Boy Scout and other activities. He' was editor of the Improvement1 Era, L. D. S. church publication,! at one time, and had been an.ac-, tive member of the Utah State : Press association, in which ortran-j ization he was known as "Poet Lariat." ! Surviving Professor Merrill are! his wife and three children. Mrs. Merrill is a sister of Mrs. M. J. Christensen of Milford and Bishop and Mrs. Christensen drove to Provo immediately on receipt of word of the professor's untimely death. The bishop returned home Sunday but rejoined his wife in Provo Wednesday for the funeral. |
