Show ATHLETIC CLUB CALLS FOR TENNIS SOFTBALL FANS Members of the Milford Athletic Club's activities board met at the News office last Monday to formulate formu-late further plans for the coming summer months. Coach Hone, president of the group, resigned the office' on the plea that he would be absent during dur-ing much of the time, attending summer teachers' school, and he believed the head of the group should be in Milford at all times The club again will operate the swimming pool, it was decided, and activity tickets sold at the same price as previously, $1 for children 14 years and younger, with $2 for all persons over the age of 14. These tickets admit holders to the tennis court at any time, and to the poll upon payment for 5c for clrldren and 10c for adults. Non-members Non-members will be required to pay 15c and 25c for use of the pool. Two important gatherings were scheduled, the first being a call for Softball team sponsors to meet at The Milford News office at 6:15 this (Friday) evening. At 6:15 Monday all persons interested in-terested in tennis compelitioin are requested to gather at the courts on the Union Pacific area. Practice schedules, league schedules, sched-ules, and other important preliminary prelim-inary matters connected with the Softball play will be discussed at the meeting today. Four sponsors already have definitely announced their intention to field softball teams. These include Penney's, The Sportsmen's Club, the Union Pacific and The Milord News, all sponsoring boys' teams, and the Telluride Power Company probably prob-ably will sponsor a girls' team. Minersville has expressed the desire de-sire to enter a team, and other sponsors are needed for at least one more boys' team and two girls' teams, At the tennis meeting Monday, plans will be made for an elimination elimina-tion tournament to include men's doubles and singles, girls' doubles and singles, junior doubles and singles sin-gles and mixed competition. From the tournament teams will be selected se-lected to enter intra-city competition. competi-tion. Jim Carpita, active for some years in Milford athletics, was regrettably re-grettably omitted from last week's list of members of the athletic board. The full committee is Doris L:mb, Zeke Hickman, Mrs. Carden, Mrs. Roth McCulley, Coach E. D. Hone, Jim Carpita and S. A. Williams. |
