Show Sergeant Jim Holyoak Returns From Overseas Staff Sergeant James T. Holy-oak, Holy-oak, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Dell Holyoak, arrived in Milford Sunday Sun-day on a furlough after serving six months with the Eighth Air force in Europe as a ball turret gunner -on a B-17 Flying Fortress. He completed 34 missions, totaling 261 combat flying hours. A former student of Cedar City high school, where he was prominent promi-nent in student activities, Sergeant Holyoak won the air medal with four oak leaf clusters during his j tour of duty overseas and also wears a good condct medal and a I star for the battle of Germany. He I had some tough missions, especial-; especial-; ly one which took him to Ham-; Ham-; burg, when seven of the planes in l his squadron were shot down by flak, which was extremely heavy-And, heavy-And, only a short time after he finished up, the plane on -which he had served so successfully, went clown with all crew members. Following some three weeks to be spent in Milford and Cedar City, i Sergeant Holyoak will report at ; the redistribution station at Santa Ana, California, for a check-up i.nd reassignment. |
