Show Junior High Boys Break Records at Provo Contests Milford junior high school a.h-letes a.h-letes came within a half point ot equaling the Beaver fellows in the three-school county meet a couple of weeks ago, scoring 28 points to Beaver's 2SV2 and Minei svilleV lS1,, and last Friday proceeded to further add to their laurels and those of Coach Floyd Kotter m the annual invitational meet at '. Provo. Not only did they make a good showing considering ithe minor min-or position track and field activi-1 ties1 have held in the local school in the past, but also they contributed contri-buted two of the 14 new marks established in junior boys' events Abe Griffiths of Milford, with a time of :58.5 for the 440, came in first in division 2 for junior high school boys and in dcing sc broke the record in that division also being a member of the team ! who, in 1:4G time, broke the record : in the 880-yard relay, same . division. di-vision. The other runners in this relay event were M. Clothier, O ' Williams and N. Williams. j Bud James, entered in division 3, came in third in one of the 440 races; Austin Williams came in third in division 1 of a similai race and Clothier came in fifth in one of the 220 events. i In field events Dan Gillies gtj third in the high jump and Nolan Williams fifth in the pole vault. Saturday was devoted to senior high school activities but the only j place taken by Milford in these events was third in the class b mile relay. Tom Haney, Buui James, Jess McKnight and Dan I Gillies carried Milford's colors in this race. Warren Thompson, who has been doing better than 42 feet consistently consist-ently in the shotput and was expected ex-pected to make a good showing at Provo, was drenched by 'the rain which fell virtually all day, ami was decidedly off form. |
