Show Salt Lake Chief Again Commends Rlilford Fire Boys Battalion Chief J. K. Piercey of the Salt Lake City fire department v. as in Milford Friday of last week lor his annual educational and inspection in-spection visit and again paid fervent fer-vent tribute to the efficiency and ri h morale of the Milford Volunteer Volun-teer Fire department. And that Chief Piercey is sincere in his praise of the local department is proved by the fact that lie spent considerable time Saturday forenoon, fore-noon, taking colored motion pictures pic-tures of various activities of the local department to be shown in : all parts of the state. These were ' the first pictures taken by Chief ' Piercey with natural color film 1 and the first motion pictures of : any kind taken by him except of i paid department men. ! Friday afternoon and early eve-j eve-j ning meetings heid by Chief Piercey Pier-cey were devoted to technical inspection in-spection and instruction work with showing of some pictures and demonstrations dem-onstrations of fire hazards and ex-! ex-! tinguishing methods. Friday eve- ning at 8 o'clock a public meeting ! was held at which more pictures ' were shown, accompanied by an i interesting talk. Unfortunately, tJhere was only a very small at-: at-: tendance, except for the firemen, who felt more or less chagrined at i the small response to the invita-j invita-j tion to the general public to attend. 1 One of the points stressed by 1 Chief Piercey at the evening meet-. meet-. ing was the desirability of having ' proper salvage covers and know- ing how to use and care for them, j Saturday morning, in an interview with The Xews, Chief Piercey stat-J stat-J ed that he was afraid that some j people may have got the impression impres-sion that Milford was not thus equipped. This is not the case, how ever, he said, as the local department depart-ment has two verp fine covers and the local lads know well how to use and care for them. His parting message to the peo--'!e of Milford was the hope that . something would be done to make it possible for the local boys to join the state firemen's association, thereby participating in al 1 the advantages of such affiliation, including in-cluding perpetual death benefits, ?ov;di!!g the small annual mem-b mem-b "r. hi" fees are kept paid up. The big sticker to joining the state association as-sociation is the initiation fee, which """i and which it is hardly fair to "ask the boys themselves to pay since their splendid work out-s'.anding out-s'.anding throughout the state is irely voluntary and unpaid. o |
