Show SITUATION us seen at the .. jeles Union ftock yards Los Angeles Union Stock Yards, January 17 Despite acute labor shortages in meat processing plants, sizable receipts of livestock live-stock are meeting fairly active dennnil and slaughtering (ilart are absorbing daily supplies in the Los Angeles area at generally steady prices. At 12 leading livestock live-stock markets last week, a total of 234,000 cattle were recei.'d against 194,000 a year tgo; 35.4C0 calves against 29,000 a year ago, 666,700 hogs against 411,700 a year ago, and 266,200 sheep and lambs against 250.S00 a year ago. Cattle receipts f.t Loj Angeles Union Stock yards were 50C' above a year ago yet the larger supply was absorbed with little v difficulty. IPrices were generally steady with exception of canner and cutter cows, which declined about 25c and in some cases 50c below a week previous, Medium to good steers, most of which had been on grain feed, brought $13.75 to '$15.50, common and medium steers $11 to $13.25. A comparatively small number of stacker and feeder cattle brought steady prices. Common to good feeder steers made $10 to $12.50, stock cows $7 to $S.15, stock calves $11 to $13.40 a cwt. Good and choice native vealers, now arriving in somewhat larger numbers, cleared at $12 to $15 slaughter range calves mainly $11.50 to $14, common on down to $9.50. Choice grain-fed hogs from distant dis-tant points sold upwards to $15, to 260-pound hogs at the "floor" most of the good and choice 200-price 200-price of $14.75, 310- .to 390-pound hogs $12 to $12.50, 1G0- to 170-pound 170-pound hogs $12 to $13, good and choice sows $9.50 to $10.50. Good and choice wooled lambs are quoted at $14.50 to $15 or better, good ewes up to $6.50 a fwt. |
