Show The debt owed by Finland to this country which has been commonly referred to as a war debt and. the payments of which are being promptly met, is really not a war debt in the commonly understood, meaning of the term. The debt was created in 1917 when Finland declared her independence of Russia. As a result of the fight put up to gain this independence in-dependence she was left destitute. The United States congress, con-gress, in response to an appeal, sent food and grain. The debtj a large one for that country, Which is very poor and has little resources, is being paid promptly as each installment install-ment falls due. The nation has a population about the size of the city of Chicago. |
