Show 1 Milford Quintet Defeats Murray; Win Six Games Expensive though it is to bring in high-ranking competing squads from upstate;, the idea is a good one, as was proved Thursday night of last: week when the powerful pow-erful basketball squad from Murray Mur-ray high school came to Milford for a practice tilt with the Tigers and took a 40-22 trimming for their reward after the long trip by train. This was the only game played on their trip, but, despite this, Coach Rose brought some 15 men with him from the Smelter city, which boasts a high school registration many times that of Milford. The signing up of this well-known well-known team brought out a record-breaking record-breaking paid-admission crowd for a practice game and gave the Milford Mil-ford lads a wondei-ful workout and a taste of victory over a team of state tourney calibre, which players and fans alike appreciated fully. 'Hardly a person present for the game expected the Milford team to be able to do much more than check the well-balanced and much larger Smelterites and this belief took on some color when Murray was first to score a field goal and Milford missed two free shots. It was only a few moments later, however, that Bud James, Milford forward, started a scoring rampage ram-page that has not been equalled on the local floor in yeai-s. Before the rather slow-istarting first quarter had ended' he had scored three field goals from every-which angles, Jim Hickman also shooting shoot-ing an additional field counter for eight points,, while their Milford pals were holding the awe-strick-! en visitors to two field baskets. J With the taste of victory over their highly-touted opponents sparking them, the second quarter was a comlete rout for Murray, Jamies scoring1 two more field goals and Nolan Williams and Dan Gillies one each to make the score 16-5 beifore the Murray team could get going, the first half ending with the score 18-8 in favor of Milford. The third period was even worse for the sadly-disillusioned visitoi's the perfect-clicking perfect-clicking starting quintet running up 12 additional points for Milford,, Mil-ford,, while completely shutting out the visitors until Coach Kot-ter Kot-ter ran in a complete set of reserves. re-serves. This gave the visitors the opportunity to score their only field counter for the period, making mak-ing the score 30-10 in Milford's favor as the final quarter began. The reserves were left in for a few minutes longer and' then the original five re-entered the fray and the two teams clicked along on fairly equal terms, the reserves re-serves being given another whirl at it for the closing moments of the game. Friday night, following Thursday's Thurs-day's game with Murray, the Milford Mil-ford team went to Parowan and took that team into camp by a 26-20 26-20 score.
