Show MOVIES AND NEWSPAPERS ' Movies are popular, but so are newspapers. Last year, according to the Film Daily year book, about 90,000,000 peo-1 pie went to see the pictures every week. But in the same year, according to Ayers Newspaper directory, people read 270,000,000 copies of the daily papers every week. This makes three papers read for every trip to the movies. If we : assume an average of two reaaers for every copy of the paper it makes six pairs of eyes trained on the newspaper, for every pair of eyes fixed on the screen not to mention the millions and millions more who read the weekly papers of ; the country. People give up the movies much more easily than they do their newfepapers. Newspaper circulation declined from 300,000,000 a week in 1930 to 250,000,000 a week in 1933, a 1 drop of 17 per cent. Movie attendance fell from 110,000,000 , a week to 60,000,000 a week, or more than 45 per cent. Last : year the movie attendance was back to a little over 80 per; cent of the predepression high. Newspaper circulation was ' back to 90 per cent. New York Times., . j |
