Show Inspection Made ; Of CCC Projects j In Local Vicinity j Experimental range re-seeding j last fall and winter appears to have been more successful than those in charge had dared hrpc for, considering the light snowfall, and it is the intention -cf grazing division official to enlarge the j scope cf the work this coming ; season if the man-power remains i available in connection with the Milford CCC camp. The News editor, in company with Clyde Tervort, camp superintendent, super-intendent, Tuesday made a short tour of the re-seeded plots and the closer truck trail and reservoir reser-voir projects and found the trip most enlightening from the angle of extent of work done and also the efficient manner of its doing. The principal re-seeded areas are located close to the blazed route of the proposed truck trail connecting the Nada section with highway 21 by way of a foothill route closely following that of the old "Pioche road", traveled in earliest pre-ra'ilroad days by heavily heav-ily laden f reight wagons. This road is one of the many projects in this vicinity which would be left unfinished if the local CCC camp is discontinued. Only one of the re-seeded areas inspected was under fence though some of the others are marked with posts and livestock are supposed sup-posed to be kept off until the tender plants have had an importunity impor-tunity to make some headway. Domestic rye, crested wheat and some other grasses have been planted and both the rye and the crested wheat grass have germinated germi-nated and appeared to be doing well despite the need of moisture. In one small area, where there was visible evidence of alkali, Castle Valley clover seed had been planted but there was no evidence cf germination found though this may be due to the fact that the season is a little early yet. A visit to the Big Wash reservoir, reser-voir, located some distance up the wash, was a revelation in the way of construction. This dam involves the moving of 22,400 yards cf dirt and the reservoir, when completed, will hold 113 acre feet of water. Though the dam is pretty well completed the construction con-struction of the spillway is just getting underway. Another road which was inspected in-spected was what is known as the Black Butte truck trail, extending some ten miles northv from the airways radio station. Spots on this read which become "greasy" during wet weather have been given giv-en good coats of gravel and the road is serving well several mines and prospective mines in addition to the stockmen. Another small reservoir, with a 12-fcot dam and extensive development whereby additional drainage is brought into in-to the reservoir, is located just off this road. M |
