This is a translucent cloth made from the casein which is extracted extract-ed from skim milk. The fiber can be blended with wool, mohair, cotton, cot-ton, rayon or fur' in varying amounts and is being used extensively exten-sively in the manufacture of felt hats. Milk long has been used for many diverse purposes, but it has now entered a new field of service; ser-vice; permanent waves. In New York, the Park Avenue salon of Primrose house is advertising a milk-fed permanent wave, claiming claim-ing that the milk solution gives the hair a healthy tone and leaves the waves soft and beautiful. Enough nourishment to satisfy a soldier's hunger for at least a day has been packed into a new "featherweight" package and ;i)5 known as the bail-out ration. In tended specifically for army fliers,! it was developed by the quarter-; master corps subsistence experts.! The complete ration, weighing about 8M ounces, fits easily into1 the soldier's pocket. It contains a vitamized chocolate bar, a box of, malted milk dextrose tfiblefs, a carton of dextrose tablets, a tube' of boullion powder and a stick ofj chewing gum. The package for the bail-oujt ration is the same as that for the K-ration, being specially speci-ally treated heavy wax paper that is proof against grease, dirt, moisture mois-ture and gas. After corduroy has been washed the garment should be put on a hanger, without wringing so as not to disturb the pile, and dried outdoors, in a stiff breeze if pos- sible. The nap is brushed up when almost dry, and the garment ironed on the wrong side, with a towel between the fabric and the board. The base of used shotgun shells contains brass, and this metal is needed in the war program. The Fish and Wildlife service suggests that all used shells be turned over to salvage committees. Sugar rations for army and navy personnel on furlough have been set at a half-pound a week, the office of price administration announces. Another change permits per-mits a service man whose furlough is only a week to obtain sugar. Heretofore, leave had to extend more than a week before he was eligible. Moreover, the full weekly week-ly half-pound allowance will be made for any fraction of a week |
