Red Cross Course ' In Swimming To Begin June 28th Continuing its nationwide campaign cam-paign for the conservation of human hu-man lives by the prevention of accidents, ac-cidents, the American National Red Cross announces a swimming and life saving campaign will be held in Milford, June 28 to July 3. J. C. Smith, chairman of the local Red Cross chapter, says that all persons desiring- free instruction in the art of swimming should enroll en-roll at once with Mr. Smith or with Kenneth Russey at the swimming pool. An expert instructor, representing represent-ing the Pacific branch of the Amerian Red Cross at San Francisco, Fran-cisco, will be here to conduct the classes. He will be assisted by Mr. Russey and others. Edwin H. Carroll, director of first aid and life saving in the Pacific Pa-cific area, asserts that swimming is now regarded as a universal sport indulged in by persons ranging rang-ing from 3 to 90 years of age. He also observes that swimming is placed at the top of the list of beneficial sports by physical educators edu-cators as it provides for the use of most muscles in the body. The therapeutic value, particularly to those suffering from some form of paralysis, also is well known, he adds. Carroll points out that millions of persons have learned how to swim under Red Cross instruction. Of this mumber 715,208 have been certificated as life savers, having demonstrated their ability of being able not only to save themselves but to help others in distress should the emergency arise. Last year more than 20,000 volunteer instructors and examiners examin-ers in local chapters throughout the United States aided the Red Cros3 in advancing the water-safety program. j I !
