Show I , - - School IRotes I ! 1 SECOND GRADE We have a new unit. It is about j logging. The first picture was i about the forest. It is a good unit. I Lee. I We have 34 pupils in our room. At the first of the year we only j hud 30 pupils. The second grade has .frown. Joey Murdock. I We have a new unit. The unit' is about logging. The logs go down! through a chute in the water. I Many men ride on the logs. Pat. We made Mother's day books, i We put on it "To My Mother". We1 put three nice poems in it. The' first one was called "Mother", and the next one was called "My Mother". The last one was called "Mother's Day". We think they j will like them. . j FOURTH GRADE j We have had five social studies' when we finish the Pioneers. We j have had Lake Bonneville, Cliff Dwellers, . Spanish, Fur Traders and Pioneers. Alfred Horton. Pictures Yesterday we chose our Pioneer! picture for our big book. Alfred I Morton's picture was chosen. It j shows a fort with a covered wagon coming in to it. It shows an Indian on the hill looking in at the fort. Jack Bradshaw. New Books Miss Robinson brought us a new book called, "Little Dear" and Bhe brought another one called, "Dancing "Danc-ing Cloud". They are both good. Lois Lee. The Hand Cart Companies After Brigham Young had used all the money from the emigration funds he had to furnish the hand carts for the poor. The people came from England and Scandinavian Scandina-vian countries. The first two companies com-panies were only allowed to have 17 pounds of luggage for each person. per-son. The food and the clothing were strapped on the frame. The first two companies had 500 people, peo-ple, 100 hand carts, 5 wagons, 24 oxen, 4 mules and 25 tents each. The party walked the entire distance dis-tance of 1,300 miles. They were led by Edmund Ellsworth and Daniel McArthur. The second party was the one that beat the record of walking from Florence to Salt Lake. It was led by Edward Ed-ward Bunker. The last company arrived on the 0th of November. It was the second company that had all the hardships. It was led by Captain Willie and Captain Martin. Mar-tin. Howard M. FIFTH GRADE Thrift I am reading a book on thrift. It is about a girl who always spends her money unthoughtfully. Her friend Emma did not spend hers until she had saved enough for skates or something useful. I think to be thrifty is good for everyone. Betty Davidson. Our Ball Game One day Vernon U'Ren went down to the sixth grade room to challenge them to a game of baseball. base-ball. The next day at recess we played them. They won from us because when someone knocks a fly thew all don't run after it but the one gets it that is close. They are good catchers too. Maybe next year we will be champions of the grade school because we will be in the sixth grade. (Norman. Just a few days ago Miss Robinson Robin-son came to the Milford fifth fade and gave us two arithmetic tests. Some problems were very I easy. Some were story problems and others fi.jvir'.' type problems. I enjoyed working them. We have had many tests in arithmetic this year. We all got a good score in the tests Miss Robinson gave us. Afton English. Oregon This week we are studying about j Oregon. Today we divided into committees. Tomorrow we are going to start to draw our pictures pic-tures and maps and then write a story on Oregon. Dern Outzen. SIXTH GRADE Horses j The first horse called the "dawn ' horse" was found in what is now Wyoming and was only 16 inches ! high. It lived on earth biafoite ! man did and had four toes on the j front letrs and three on its hind legs. North America was joined j to Asia by the Bering Strait then,; so it left the new world and went to the old world, so there were noti any horses here when the first' people came over. When Cortez ! came over he brought horses with j him and the Indians were panic' stricken when they saw aman on a! horse. Some of the horses escaped or got lost from the horses Cortez ; brouirht over and they multiplied j i-ntil there were hands, ojf wild j horses all over America. There are still horses roaming wild over Asia, but they have larger heads and a flowing mane and tail and are bigger than our domestic horses. The horses eat grasses,! wild hay, alfalfa, roots, grains and many other things. If you should cross a horse and a donkey you world get an animal called a muleJ When a mule is first born it is , : called a "hinney". Mules have many advantages over horses.
