Show Washington Comment Within the past few weeks, a tented city has sprung up in and around Washington's ;flambd Ftf-tomac Ftf-tomac park where the cherry blossoms blos-soms hold sway each springtime. Today the river front on both the District of Columbia and the Virginia Vir-ginia shores is blooming with the dun-colored mushroom-like tents of the U. S. army and awaiting the horde of 25,000 Boy Scouts who will hold their 10-day jamboree here after being so cruelly deprived depriv-ed of their outing two years ago because of the prevalence of infantile infan-tile paralysis. The United States public health service is seeing to it that every precaution is taken to safeguard the health of the lads who will come here on June 30. The 350-acre tented city is supplied sup-plied through special mains with the same pure city water used by local citizens complete water and sewer systems have been laid, employing em-ploying some 20,000 feet of pipe. Shower baths are ecfuipped with moats at the front containing a chlorine solution through which the young Scouts must walk, thus forestalling "athlete's foot" and other infections. There are 21 main kitchens to provide food for voracious campers, and fine bronze-screening bronze-screening is being used against flies. Twenty-one "dry ice" refrigerators re-frigerators eo,uip the main kitchen tents and 714 smaller ones will be assigned to individual troops. Live steam will be used to sterilize everything that touches the food and water served to the boys. Add to this precaution that only Scout? 100 per cent perfect in physical condition will be allowed at the camp and the "jamboree city will be the healthiest place on earth", according to Dr. James E. West, chief Scout executive, who has conferred con-ferred with Washington health authorities in preparing the Scout accomodations. Now if "Old Man I'.iver" doesn't overflow its banks again like it did this spring, the jamboree will prove another fea-turo fea-turo in Washington's cap as a convention con-vention city. The question uppermost at the capitol these days is: Can a senate minority still filibuster a bill to ! nVath in view of the twentieth amendment to the constitution? Some say "yes" and some say "no", but the real answer is coming com-ing along when the president's court plan goes under fire Ix-forr the- senate. Opponents of the court plan declare they can and will filibuster fili-buster against the hill, holding out night and day, if necessary, by continuous talking, quorum culls, anil a reserve squad of five ready speakers available to draw on until un-til such a time as they know they have the votes to defeat a compromise com-promise (if that time ever comes). Senator Burke has inilicntinl that he for one will make the longest speech of his career. Other senators sena-tors have already outlined from two to 15 speeches each against tho bill. The record for filibustering1 filibuster-ing1 17 hours is still held by the Into Senator Robert I.a Kollette. though the late Huey Long ran n close second at the closing term of his last congress when ho held tho floor for hours by reciting his favorite cooking recipe.s to a handful hand-ful of sleepy and resentful senator. sena-tor.
