Show Lehman's Cave Is Now Fully Lighted The underground caverns of Lehman caves were bathed in light Monday afternoon when the lighting system was completed and turned on for the first time in all the caverns. Approximately 250 light) bulbs now light the caverns for a distance dis-tance of 1500 feet from the entrance, en-trance, with the cable being buried in suh a manner as not to hinder the view of the formations. forma-tions. The bulbs vary from 25 to 75 watts, depending upon the size of the chambers or the lighted light-ed column. The lighting system was in. stalled during the past six months, and C. M. McKenzie, park service ranger in charge of the national monument, turned the lights on Monday. The system displays unrealized depth of chambers, brings out the natural coloring and displays made by nature, and greatly enhances en-hances the value of the caverns. Visitors to the caverns will now be conducted through the lighted chambers without the aid of lamps formerly used. It is expected ex-pected that there will be a large increase of tourists to the national nation-al monument. |
