Show Milford CCC Notes (By Carl M. Hollow-ay) We, the members of Company 469, left our former camp at Vicksburg, Mississippi, October 9, 1937, under the supervision of Lieutenant Rupert Ingram, our commanding officer, and Lieutenant Lieuten-ant Raymond Egan, our junior officer. of-ficer. We had a very pleasant journey in the pullmans that Uncle j Sam had chartered for us for the '. entire trip. We arrived here October 12,! finding ourselves in an entirely j new environment. That was two weeks ago. Since then we have learned quite a few pleasant things about our surroundings. We learned, learn-ed, first of all, that the south did not have a monopoly on hospitality, as we, being southerners, believed.' In these two short weeks we have been here the people of Milford have been very nice to ns. ! A very nice reception was given at the Methodist church Friday night for all the CCC boys. If. the people of Milford continue to ' be so nice to us it will be hard for us to even have to leave. We are : planning to get better acquainted. A number of the boys have de-, veloped a keen interest in the re ligious activities of the town and some of them have already met and started a movement among the boys of attending church. i Out of 160 boys in camp, we 1 have 114 boys from the state of, Mississippi, 39 from Louisiana, 1 four from Florida, two from Ala-, bama and one from Georgia. ! |
