Show Up For Reelection A ti2jJ s JUDGE WILL L. HOYT Judge Will L. Hoyt of Nephi is a candidate for. re-election as district dis-trict judge of the Fifth judicial district. He has held this office since 1936 and during this period he .has made a commendable record re-cord for prompt handling of litigation liti-gation arising in this district. Prior to his election to the district dis-trict bench in 1936, Judge Hoyt was engaged in the general practice prac-tice of law at Nephi for 14 years. During that time he served Juab county as county attorney for two terms and was a member of the state legislature for several sessions. ses-sions. He was majority leader of the house of r epresentatives In 1933 and was an active advocate of tax reform and coordination of government activities. He was a member and secretary of the legislative legis-lative code committee which had oharge of the revision of the state statutes, resulting in the "Revised Statutes of Utah, 1933". Judge Hoyt was an energetic advocate of reform and simplification of the state code of original procedure, and both in the legislature and as a member of the state bar worked for adoption of legislation which would eliminate needless technicalities techni-calities o f criminal procedure which has often opened the path of escape to guilty criminals. This program of reform was enacted into law in 1935, and by its adoption adop-tion Utah became one of the first states ;n the union to put into effect ef-fect criminal law reforms which have been urged for many years by the American Bar association, the National Crime commission, and the American Law institute. Judge Hoyt is a native son of Utah, having been born at Nephi in 1892. In 1925 he married Miss Vivian Peterson of Salt Lake City. They have five children. He received re-ceived his legal schooling at the University of Utah, He is a member mem-ber of the L. D. S. church and has served for a number of years as a member of the Juab stake high council. He served with the United States army during the World war. He is chairman of the committee com-mittee of bar examiners of the Utah state bar, and has also served serv-ed as president of the District Judges association of Utah. |
