Show TELLURIDE PIONEER IN AIR SCOUTING OF POWER LINES The Telluride Power company tcck to the airways Wednesday morning to save time, money and hardship in patrolling their newly-built newly-built power line from Milford to Sulphurdale. Chartering a plane from a local flying service operating from the Milford airport they inspected the 27-mile line in one hour and five minutes' flying time in what is believed be-lieved to be the first Utah use of airplanes for this purpose. Inspecting Inspect-ing the line from the ground would have required use of trucks, skis and snowshocs, and more , than a full , day's heavy slogging over the drifts and snowbanks of the mountainous moun-tainous terrain. Kent Smith, power company employe em-ploye who made the trip, was jubilant jubi-lant over the saving in effort and the excellent results of the trip. ' You could see every pole, insulator . and conductor as though you were sitting on it," he said, "and every inch of the shining copper line was brought into perfect view. We skimmed along from a few feeto 50 or 60 yards over the line, and it was the most thorough inspection trip I've ever made. I'm all for air inspections from now on." |
