Show Joseph Manzione Out For Sheriff Joseph A. Manzione of Beaver, who has announced his candidacy for the nomination for county sheriff and whose display ad ap-p?ars ap-p?ars in this issue of The News, has had a life of varied experiences. experien-ces. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., January 17, 1894 and moved to Beaver county in 1909. lie has lived in Adamsville, Milford, Greenville and Beaver up to this time, with the exception of the time spent in the world service. He spent 28 months in the United Unit-ed States army, 18 .months of which- were in France and Germany with the American Exbcditionary forces. He saw action in five major battles, namely: Aisne-Marne Aisne-Marne sector at Chateau Thierry, Vcsle Seetor, St. Mihkd. Meusp-Argonne, Meusp-Argonne, and one defensive sector, his regiment being cited for spending spend-ing 4fi days in the Mcusp-A rgonnr forest. He was stationcl in Germany Ger-many with the Army of Occupation Occupa-tion for eight months. For a number of years Mr. Man-zirne Man-zirne engaged in mining, having worked at the Horn Silver mine at Frisco and the Cactus mine at N'ewhouse. For seven years he was employed em-ployed at the power plant of the Telluride Bower company in Beaver Bea-ver canyon. He spent four years as city manager of Beaver City, having all the resources under his care. During his administration the new light plant was built and machinery machin-ery installed, and an eight-inch water main installed from the mouth of Beaver canyon to the intersection of Tenth and Main streets. For several years Mr. Manzione was connected with the employment employ-ment service in Beaver and Millard counties, which terminated in December, De-cember, 1937. He has been a staunch Democrat all his life and has been energetic in party activities of Beaver county. coun-ty. He has been active in civic affairs, also in the American Legion Le-gion and Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations, being instrumental instru-mental in the (organization of the V. F. W. and serving a? its first post commander, also serving in various offices in the A'vciican Legion. ' - At present he is camp chairman of the Beaver East Ward Boy Scouts, and for ten years has been a lieutenant in the United States army. In 1925 Mr. Manzione married LaPriel White, daughter of Mrs. George D. White, and has a family of six sons. |
