Show Milford-Born Boy Missing In Action Mr. and Mrs. K. B. Coon received re-ceived word Monday that their nephew, Captain William K. "Bill" Coon, was missing in action over (Germany since May 22. Captain Coon is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Mitchell Coon of Compton. California, former residents of Milford, and the young man was born in Milford 23 years ago. The family, who received the word from the war department June 3, moved: to California in 1922. Captain Coon entered the air forces in January, 1942, and received re-ceived his commission and the wings of a fighter pilot December Decem-ber 3, 1942 at Luke field, Arizona. He was a member of one of the first Lightning groups to com-! mence operations in the European theatre of operations, as escort for the long-range heavy bombers. While returning from one mission j he fired at and damaged a Nazi warship. With- 28 combat mis-isions mis-isions and 200 hours of combat 'flying to his credit, and holder of 'the air medal with three oak leaf jclusters, he was promoted to cap- tain only a few weeks ago. j Anxiously awaiting further word from the war department are his parents and sister, Grace Marie, who was married a few weeks ago to Robert Wrench, who just re- centlyl received a commission of first lieutenant in the army dental corps.
