Show Tuesday Is Date For Inoculation I For Diphtheria ! Mure than twice as many ca-e of diphtheria have been reported i to the state board of health in the I first ten months of l'.37 than dur-! dur-! ing the entire year of lU.'i'i, according accord-ing to a letter released to all physicians phy-sicians in the state over the signature signa-ture of Dr. William M. McKay, director di-rector of tht division of communicable communi-cable disease control. Dr. McKay's letter stressed the further fact that the disease this year is caused by an organism of very hih virulence, viru-lence, which means that this is the same type of diphtheria germ which made the disease so severe in earlier years. The letter made an appeal to doctors to encourage children of all their patients to be inoculated : immediately with toxoid given in I , two or three doses one month a-1 part. Where . chil '. n nae been inoculated previously with one j dose cf alum precipitated toxoid.! they should receive another inocu-j lation now, according to Dr. Mc-1 Kay. It has been demonstrated' ; that one inoculation provides im- munity, ordinarily, fir only one I year to eighteen months, Dr. Mc-I Mc-I Kay says, whereas the two inoculations inocula-tions of alum prtsipitated texoid ; or three inoculations of untreated Uxoid provide immunity for a much longer period for life, in ' most instances. All parents in. the state are.ad-! are.ad-! vised by the state-board of hta!:h" to have non-immunized children j taken to the family physician or j clinic at once for their inoculations lagamst diphtheria. I The extreme urgency of . every ; possible precaution being taker. ! against the spread of this damrer- ous childhood disease is stressed ; V.y our local doctors, and by Dr. J. j L. Jones, state health commis-- isicner, who pointed out the fact ! that there are at present more than 150 clinical cases of iitj'h- j j theria in Emery and Carbon coun-l Uies alone. Dr. Jones gives assur-j I anre that the state board of health j land all district health authorities! will cooperate in every way with public officials and citizens in an j effort to bring this disease under control as promptly as possible. As a precaution against thisl disease in this locality, the P.-T. A. is sponsoring a diphtheria immunization immuni-zation clinic in Milford. It will be held in the Milford grade school:-I school:-I on Tuesday, December 7. at 9:00 ! a.m. i All children under 12 who had 'one injection of the alum precipitated preci-pitated toxoid should have another and those' who have not been immunized, im-munized, should do so at this time. Children over 12 should have "a Schick test, regardless of whether or not they have been immunized, to see whether or not they are immune im-mune to diphtheria before they are given the toxoid. In order to help pay for the material ma-terial and the doctors' services, a charge of 50 cents will be made for each child who receives the complete inoculations. For those who receive the second dose of alum precipitated toxoid only, the charge will be 25 cents. The charge for the Schick test is 15 cents. No charge will be made for pre-school children. |
