Show Boxer Rebellion Award In 1902, China awarded the United Unit-ed States $24,440,000 to indemnify the government and American citizens cit-izens for damages and expenses resulting from the Boxer Rebellion. Rebel-lion. In 1908, after all accounts had been settled, there still remained re-mained $11,960,000 or nearly half of the award. So the United States, in a unique gesture, returned this balance to the Chinese government, govern-ment, which used the money to educate ed-ucate Chinese studtnts in America. |
