During the past several months prices paid for cattle, hogs and for the most part, for fat lambs, have been higher at l.os Angeles than at any other major market. The eighth annual stock show iiv.rks further .advance in the quality of western livestock. Probably no other influence has , meant more towards encouraging good breeding and finishing' fin-ishing' of livestock. The impetus given through the show ring and through premium prices has encouraged en-couraged many stockmen to each year go back home and attempt to further improve their stock. While theipast few years have been discouraging dis-couraging to all. it has been true right along that the man who was breeding in a constructive i way, and feeding intelligently, has probably fared better than anybody else. The fact that a California bred fteer, fed entirely on California grown feeds and by a California boy, was good enough to win against the finest steers produced in the entire western country is added proof that r.o other place in the country is better bet-ter suited for quality meat production. produc-tion. The important thing that must be worked out is economical feeding. We are making strides in that direction. di-rection. The feeds are available and gradually we learn to utilize home grown feeds in the proper balance so as to produce good meats, economical eco-nomical . |
