Show Red Cross Rollcall Organization Being Effected For Campaign Mrs. 0. R. Smith Named To Head Group of Workers; Rollcall Begins November 1 Under the leadership of Joseph C. Smith citizens of Milford are organizing organ-izing for the Red Cross membership roll call, which opens Sunday, November No-vember 11, and continues through Thanksgiving day, November 29. Every man and woman is invited by Mrs. O. R. Smith, who has been appointed chairman of roll call and her co-workers, to join the American Red Cross. "States in the Pacific area" she says, "are urged to enroll 500,000 Red Cross members that this great humanitarian organization may continue con-tinue its relief and welfare work for thousands of beneficiaries. Our local chapter's quota of the 500,000 is 100 members. -Certainly we can achieve and exceed this figure if each person does his and her part," she adds. "We can take pride in the fact that the west registered the largest percentage per-centage of increase in the national Red Cross membership gain last year and that the honor flag is now held by the state of Nevada. Nevada Ne-vada enrolled 7.9 per cent of the state's population as. Red Cross members. mem-bers. Throughout the nation there are 3,S02,384 adult members and 7,350,280 members of the junior Red Cross." Between now and Armistice day local roll call workers will place in commanding positions Red Cross posters and window cards. The poster this year shows a sympathetic sympathe-tic Red Cross nurse, kneeling, and enfolding in her arms a boy who is the picture of distress. A shadow lies back of the two figures but light is striking across them as they turn uplifted faces to the future. The window card and informative literature litera-ture emphasize the fact that the Red Cross is steadfast as a lighthouse. Every new member receives a Red Cross button and from the window of homes will be displayed stickers bearing a large Red Cross and, where all members of the family join, they will receive a special Red Cross window win-dow flag indicating that fact. All except . fifty cents of each membership member-ship goes to support activities of the local Red Cross chapter. |
