Show VETS, LEGION JOIN TO HELP LEAGUE Thursday evening, March 1, bids to go down as one of the real red-j red-j letter days in Mifford's athletic his- tory. At that time will occur a clash of basketball wizards such as never has been seen before. The Veterans of Foreign wars "Magicians" "Magi-cians" and the American Legion "Flashes" will clash as the headline event of the evening, a three-round boxing contest between two masked marvels of the prize fight ring and another basketball game between Milford "M" men and the Beaver All-Stars, all on the same sport program, pro-gram, being decidedly secondary in interest to the other waxed floor contest. If this is doubted by any reader of The News, he has but to glance at the personnel of the two teams to completely change his mind. Speed, bulk, beauty and eagle-eyed ability with the casaba are just a few of the many qualities represented represent-ed on the respective teams and this alone will be worth the small admission admis-sion charge. And one of the finest things about this affair is the fact that it is given as a benefit for the Milford Junior League baseball team, the activities of which organization last year brought to Milford a great deal of desirable publicity. The Junior League is sponsored by the local American Legion post and the Veterans Vet-erans of Foreign wars are cooperating cooperat-ing with the Legion to put this event over in good shape, the Veterans expecting ex-pecting in return the cooperation of the Legion in putting over a boxing and wrestling carnival in behalf of the local troop of Boy Scouts, which the Veterans post is sponsoring. Both the Junior League and the Scouts have some indebtedness which should be cleared up while a fitting response on the part of the public for both of these events should also insure much-needed funds to continue the good work of both organizations. Thursday evening's two big basket ball games and boxing bout will be staged in the high school gym, and the players fromi whom the teams for the "headline" game will be picked are as follows: V. F. W. "Magicians" Vincent, Gleason, Pitchforth, Litchfield L. Outzen, Sugarin, W. Outzen, Stoker and "Babe" Waddinghain. Legion "Flashes" A. Baker, D. Heslington, Yepsen, Beecher, Parrish, Par-rish, B. Lewis, S. Cline and T. Kron-holm. |
