Show MAIL FLYING SOON IN PRIVATE HANDS Pending resumption of airmail carrying by private contract, which is expected to begin in the near future, the army air corps force at I the Milford station was reduced Tuesday Tues-day to two commissioned officers and three enlisted men, who are expected ex-pected to be stationed here pending! the ultimate withdrawal of the army from airmail carryng. Lieutenants j E. R. Schwarz and Robert E. Jarmon j are serving as control officers, while! Sergeant Roy Coulter, Corporal Win- ford C. Horne, and Private G. L. Grady compose the ground force, j These men are stationed here to j take care of emergency service of both mail and cargo eraft of the air corps, the latter type of craft stopping stop-ping here rather frequently. The lack of direct telephone communication communica-tion between town and field is keenly keen-ly felt, however, and works a hardship hard-ship on all concerned. To General Air Lines, Inc., of Bur-bank, Bur-bank, California, has been awarded the new temporary contract for carrying car-rying air mail on the Salt Lake-San Diego route at a rate of 24 cents as compared with the 45c rate in effect before the previous contracts were canceled. The Western Air Express, previous contract holder, has been maintaining its regular schedule between be-tween Los Angeles and Salt Lake despite de-spite the cancellation of its mail contract, and, revamped in organization organiza-tion to comply with the new federal requirements, it is taken for granted that the General company is or will be the successor to Western Air Express. |
