One section of town had been designated as "pikers row" according to the report re-port of the girls' activities. The workers were Maxine Bardsley, Lillian Lil-lian Stoker, Margaret O'Rourke, Ar-villa Ar-villa Muir, Mary Vincent, Ora Edwards, Ed-wards, Ireeta Atkins and Gertrude Baxter. A big all-county armistice day celebration had been held at Milford. The sun had come out warm, the I wind had forgotten to blow and 2148 (by actual count) had been served with barbecued beef, beans, sandwiches sand-wiches and hot coffee, dill pickles, pumpkin pie, mince pie and good will. The sports had consisted of fancy horseback riding, trap-shooting, basketball, sports for the children chil-dren and a confetti battle or all over 40 years of age. 0. F. McShane of Beaver had been master of ceremonies cere-monies and the address of the day had been given by Sergeant Santchi of the Salt Lake American Legion. It was doubt,ful if there ever were so many visitors from Beaver. Every- j body who could come, from Mayor; Frazer and city council members down ' and from Postmaster Lessing up had been present. Boy Scouts under Sergeant Ser-geant Mayo had been active in assisting as-sisting to keep order by acting as guards at the trap-shooting and at the races. A large gray wolf had been trapped trap-ped and shot after a battle near Nada by the senior member of the firm of Martin and company and aj bounty certificate for $62.50 had been issued by Joseph R. Murdock, county clerk. A well on the James Hardy place about 12 miles southwest of town had been finished and it was expected to have a volume of at least 1 second feet. C. A. Haskell, irrigation engineer, en-gineer, had furnished the information that the well was down 110 feet through eight strata of water-bearing gravel and sand, and the water stood at 33 feet 10 inches. Mrs. E. D. Young had been visiting her sister in Las Vegas for a month. Miss Mable Davidson had joined The News force. Mr. and Mrs. Dave McKnight and daughter, Mrs. AlbrecW:, had teen Milford visitors. Mr. and Mrs. William Bond of the Beaver bottoms section, were rejoicing re-joicing over the arrival of a fine baby daughter. A shower had been given at the home of Mrs. Charles Beard by a number of her friends. The afternoon after-noon was spent doing fancy work with the following present: Mesdames Sam Hanks, H. H. Pitchforth, Bardsley, Bards-ley, Bird, Jeffers, Retta Tanner, Eb Tanner, Jim Tanner, Walter Blaek-ner, Blaek-ner, Joe Kinney, Gene Kirk, Joe Smith, Charlie Smith, KKllam, Mc-Cully, Mc-Cully, Grey, Bates, Snyder, William Martin and Allen Hedges and Miss Dailey. o The American navy has had but four fleet actions, but in each one it captured or destroyed every hostile ship. |
