Show New Union Pacific Train To Be In Milford March 9 Latest Report Schedules Local Showing For Three o'Clock Friday Morning Train Everywhere Wins Loud Acclaim From the Public Union Pacific's new high-speed, streamline train which has been heralded as "Tomorrow's Train Today", To-day", will be on exhibition in Mil-ford Mil-ford at about 3 o'clock the morning of March 9, according to the latest word just received by Agent F. E. Casterline. An earlier schedule timed the local appearance for shortly after noon but this has been superceded super-ceded by the later schedule. Its introduction in-troduction chronicles one of the most dramatic events in transportation history. Streamlined to a greater degree than has ever before been attempted in railroad design, the train has been inspected by thousands, of visitors on its exhibition tour a tour which started with its exhibition in Chicago a few weeks ago. ' The train comprises three cars, the first of which contains the power plant and mail baggage compartments. compart-ments. The other two cars are for passengers, one car seating 60 persons per-sons and the other 56. There are no sleeping cars in this first train but sleepers have been designed and have been included in the second train which is now under construction. The seats, especially designed for this equipment, are arranged in pairs on either side of the aisle. Each seat is an individual unit and may be adjusted to four positions without reference to the one adjoining. A novel device maks it possible to nuicklv install individual tables at each seat for the service of meals from the buffet or for use as a writing writ-ing desk. In the forward end of each car, the seating arrangement provides pro-vides facilities for those who desire to play cards. Ash trays are placed at each seat for those who wish to smoke. A compact buffet is built into the tapering end of the train. The passenger pas-senger is served at his seat by waiters wait-ers who pass through the aisle with an ingenuous combination steamtable tea cart. An indirect lighting system insures in-sures uniform light without shadow throughout the cars at all times. Specially manufactured shatter-proof plate glass windows give an unusual amount of daylight in the cars. The glass is manufactured under a formula form-ula that takes the glare out of sunlight. sun-light. "Safety First" is the watchword of the new train. Exhaustive tests conducted during the period of construction, con-struction, and since the .delivery of the train to .Union Pacific by its manufacturers have proved that all safe-guards, designed and built to insure utmost safety at high speeds, function perfectly. The super-braks, developed especially especi-ally for Union Pacific's plane-train, are a complete departure from conventional con-ventional practice. In performance they may be described as a dual system, each part coordinated with the action of the other,' but each capable of independent, safe operation opera-tion in case of failure on the part of the other. A newly developed appliance, called call-ed a decelerometer, has been per fected and is installed on this new train. Its function is to equalize the brake pressure on every wheel of the train, admit maximum brake pressure pres-sure but prevent excessive braking and locked wheels such as is possible on motor cars by too mnch pressure on foot pedals or emergency brakes. Another feature of the decelerometer is that it prevents the train from starting unless the braking system is in perfect order. "Dead man" control is the term applied to the duplicate devices installed in-stalled to require the engineer or operator to keep either a hand or foot on this control while the train is moving. If for any reason hand or foot is removed from this control while the train is in motion, there is an immediate automatic closing of the throttle and application of the brakes. Comfort and convenience have been combined with beauty of de-sicn de-sicn in this new triumph of the; rails.
