Show Mines of Beaver County Push Development Work Leonora and East Antelope Mines to Open John Madsen, of Salt Lake City, who is associated with Chicago capitalists, cap-italists, was in Milford the first of the week looking after the company's mining property the Leonora and East Antelope mines northeast of town. Mr. Madsen stated that he and his associates have confidence in the future fu-ture of the mining industry and while the low price, of metal at present pre-sent is curtailing production to a certain cer-tain extent, he believes that it is only temporary ,and that they expect to start development work on their property pro-perty north of here on an extensive scale. i Mr Madsen says that the East Antelope An-telope property particularly has a fine showing, and while here put six men to work on their properties, cleaning themi up preparatory to be ginning development work. He leit Sunday for Chicago to consult with others interested in the mines, and stated that they had fifty thousand dollars ready to start work immediately. immed-iately. Also if the results justified, there was plenty of capital back of them for developing these mines. Among those interested in the Leonora and East Antelope properties, proper-ties, is Alois P. Swoboda, one of the best known writers and mining men in the United States. At the present time Mr. Swoboda is devoting his entire en-tire time to the mining industry. Tintic Lead Makes Great Headway Despite unfavorable metal prices and the general depression in business busi-ness field development operations in Beaver county mines are being pushed push-ed steadily ahead with most favorable favor-able results, according to word brought front this Southern Utah district by W. H. Child who has just made an inspection of operations at the Horn Silver mine of the Tintic Lead company. Operations at the Tintic Lead's Horn Silver mine furnished the outstanding out-standing achievement in mine development devel-opment during the past year and the Tintic Lead is still holding the lead in the exploration and development of orebodies in virgin limes of this promising distict. ."Development work on the 1000 level of the mine," Mr. Child said, "has conclusively proved the downward down-ward extension of the original Horn Silver ore body, which produced in the neighborhood of $54,000,000 of ore from an area 1000 feet long and 300 feet wide, mined to a depth of 800 feet. New territory already opened up indicates that the property should' easily duplicate its former dividend record. 1 "Last mionth the company completed complet-ed 594 feet of development work, most of it being confined to the 900 and 1000 levels. A drift on the 1000 level is being extended to the north west to cut the downward extensions of the bedded deposits that proved so big and strong on the 900 level. On the 900 level ore is being mined from seven stopes. "Work in the drift on the 1000 level already has encountered several breaks and bunches of zinc oxide, which indicate leachings from the sulphide ore bodies immediately above. "Recently the company struck a substantial body of copper ore on the 800 level and a carload of ore weekly is being shipped from this stope. It averages 8 per cent copper, bVz per cent lead and 20 ounces silver to the ton. "Shipments of ore from the property prop-erty last month totaled 51 carloads, an usually heavy output in view of the large amount of development work done. This production came from the 300, 500,700 and 900 levels." Mr. Child reported that the American Ameri-can Smelting and Refining company had started operations on its recently recent-ly acquired Frisco Lulu property, which a'djoins the Tintic Lead company's com-pany's Horn Silver mine on the south. He said that 15 men were employed constructing plant building build-ing a water tank, laying water lines, erecting a gallows frame ml installing install-ing an electric hoist, comprcs. .. and other machinery. As soon as the machinery installation installa-tion is completed and the power connected, con-nected, mining will start at the Lulu. It is understood that the first work will be from the 200 and 400 levels of the 700-foot shaft. Development will be to the westward in the limestone area from which the Tintic Lead company has produced 23,000 tons of ore since starting production 14 months ago. Mr. Child returned recently from a month's business trip to New York, Boston and Chicago. He said that the business and industrial recovery was definitely underway and that indications in-dications pointed to a return to normal nor-mal by next year. "Commodity prices are at rock bottom; bot-tom; utility, railroad and industrial concerns just are entering upon vast improvement programs and the stock market reflects a strong undertone. The public speculative fever has subsided sub-sided and people are looking for sound investment opportunities; all of which argues for a sound recovery and a prolonged period of prosperity in the future. Indications are that the remainder of the summer will be quite marketwise but that business will continue its gradual growth so that normal conditions will be fully restored by next year."
