Show SATURATED OIL FORMATION STRUCK NEAR ST. GEORGE A saturated oil formation has been reached at a depth of approximately 3700 feet in the Bloomington test of the Escalante Explorations, Inc. near St. George, Utah, it was learned from an authoritative source Thursday. Thurs-day. It is thought that the oil bearing formation is the Madison limestone, the objective formation sought when the company resumed drilling after penetrating and cementing off the 40-foot oil-saturated Supai sand recently. re-cently. The bit of the rotary rig barely penetrated the new horizon when L. Z. Johnson, geologist in charge of operations op-erations at the well, suspended work temporarily and left for Los Angeles without making an announcement of the future course of work. The Madison limestone is highly productive in the Garland, Wyoming field, "the Ohio Oil company and the Utah Southern Oil companies having wells there capable of producing from 1,500 to 5,000 barrels daily. The fact that a 2000-foot oil seep exists in the Red Wall formation (of which the Madison is a part) in the bed of the Virgin river, near the Bloomington test, is said by oil geologists geo-logists to be strong evidence that the Madison limestone in the vicinity will be found highly productive. The Bloomington test is fully equipped equip-ped for the bringing in of a well. When the Supai formation was penetrated pene-trated a control head was secured and casing was run arid cemented. At the time drilling was resumed below the Supai it was indicated that the upper oil sand would be tested for production in the event the Madison Madi-son was found not productive. In view of this it is expected that a test for production may be made in the new horizon in the near future. Mineral Survey. |
