Show PAUL EVANS' LIFE ! IS SUDDENLY ENDED Conductor Collapses At Work,' Dying Enroute to Hospital Funeral Tuesday. While Fnul J. Evans was making up his train as conductor on the Cedar City branch last Sunday, a hemorrhage burst from within his chest and before he could be rushed to nodical care, he had becomo so weakened that he pnssed away. lie was stricken early that morning, morn-ing, after having having been seen the evening before, when he appeared on the .streets and conversed with friends, seemingly in the very best of heulth. His brakeman heard a call the next morning while at work, and Toing to Mr. Evans' assistance, found he had collapsed und lifo was about gone. A passing truck was obtained and u quick drive was made for the hospital but he died on the way. Paul James Evans was born in New York City in 1SS2. lie came to this part of the- country about 1007 and had resided her-? since then. He was a veteran employe of the Union Pacific as a conductor, having been in railroad work for many pears. His only close kin to mourn his lassing is his wife, Eva. His parents par-ents preceeded him in death several years ago. Funeral services were rendered by 'he First Church of Christ, Scientist, it the residence Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. A. J. Atkin conducted the services ser-vices as Christian Scientist reader. Six railroad conductors and lodge brothers carried the casket to the hearse and last rites and funeral honors were given by Albert Pike Lodge, F. &. A. M., at the grave. Al Cline presided at these ceremonies. Mr. Evans um'ted with the Milford Masonic Lodge eight years ago. Pall bearers, selected from the great lumber of brothers and railroad men who knew him as a friend, were Ed. Marksheffel, Wm. Gardner, Dan Swayzee, Sam Blunt, Nels Calvert and Jules Smith. The profusion of floral tributes, the great number of friends who gathered at the residence, and the 'ength of the funeral procession which followed the remains to the grave all "stified to the esteem in which Mr. Evans was held in this community. |
