Show RACQUET WIELDERS SWING INTO ACTION START TOURNAMENT CULMINATING 2 ITH Beginning Wednesday evening, 'a tennis tournament was started at the local courts, in which sixteen men and twelve women are vicing for honors. The courts will be in use almost al-most exclusively for the tournament purposes until after the 24. On that date, finals will be played in both men's and women's singles and doubles. Drawings were made by members of the Athletic Club at a meeting Tuesday evening. The first round of eliminations ends this Friday when half of the players will have fallen by the wayside. Two sets out of three govern the play in all matches. In the men's preliminaries, Bums has won over Griffiths; F. Caster-line Caster-line defeated Bowman; and Afflick advanced through default of Carter. Other matches to be played are Killam-Brown; Tavlor-Bailey; W. McCulley-Richida; R. Casterline-T. McCulley; and Montgomery Morley. In the women's matches, Mrs. Morley won from Bessie Killam, and Eva Coleman won by default from Mrs. Chilton. Other preliminaries to be played are Mrs. Parrish Lola Morris; Mrs. Farnon Mrs. Griffiths; Mrs. Casterline Mildred Killam; and Letha Schow Gladys Coleman. Finals in the double matches will be played by the players in the single sin-gle finals each selecting a partner, consequently but one match will be played to determine the winners. These matches are underway each evening during daylight at the court, and the public is invited to watch them. |
