Show RADIO CONTROL AIR STATION IS LOCATED HERE MILFORD SCORES HEAVILY BY NEW AVIATION MOVE Milford has been selected by the department of Commerce, Airways Division, the the location of the radio observation station to be built between be-tween Salt Lake City and Las Vegas. . Geo. D. Barr, who is the representa- live of that government branch, spent a few days here studying the situation and forming a decision on whether to recommend the site here, or in some other southern Utah town. His recommendation, wired to Washington, was in favor of Milford, and he in turn received the official OK Thursday. Two acres of ground here were secured se-cured from Dr. Bybee, but the gov-ernment gov-ernment has asked that an alternate selection be also named. Tlus development is of prime importance im-portance to Milford, naming this town, as it does, for the sole radio control station for airplane commerce over five hundred miles of territory, and is another link in the chain of events of the past year which all tend to put Milford in a position of favorable publicity. A two hundred and twenty-five loot tower will be erected here, a house built, well dug, and telephone and electric power connctions made. Three radio operators will be stationed sta-tioned here and will make their residence resi-dence in town. From fifteen to twenty thousand dollars will be spent in construction work, building the house, erecting the tower and setting up radio equipment. The purpose of the station is to maintain direct contact with all planes between Las Vegas and Salt Lake. Weather reports will be given, and planes will be reported in and out. Persons desiring to engage passage pas-sage can do so by phoning from town to the station and having the plane stopped on the Milford landing land-ing field. Mr. Ban- has erected ten radio control stations for the government this spring, and is now engaged in making recommendations for the stations sta-tions of the line through here southwest south-west from Salt Lake. He left here to locate the next station, to be at Las Vegas. |
