Show o o New President o o mm . -m;m RAY L. RILEY Louisville, June 21. Ray Le Grande Riley of Sacramento, controller con-troller of the State of California, was today elected president of the International Association of Lions clubs, at the thirteenth annual convention con-vention here. He takes office immediately, immedi-ately, succeeding Ben A. Ruffin of Richmond, Va., as head of the second largest service organization in the world, with 1840 club and 70,000 members in every state of the Union, and every province of Canada, and in China, Mexico, Cuba and Hawaii. Mr. Riley is descended from pioneers pion-eers of Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Pennsyl-vania. He was bom at Vicksburg, Michigan, was educated there, and at the age of 17 was a licentiate in pharmacy. He was a pharmacist in Michigan, and later at Dillon, Mont., and Colton, Calif., until ten years ago. For thirty years Mr. Riley has been in the public service. He was justice of the peace before he. left Michigan; he served two terms as alderman of Dillon, Mont, he was for two terms a city trustee of Colton, Calif.; he was twice elected county supervisor nf San Bernardina County, Calif; state water commissioner 1917-1919; state real estate commisioner 1919-1921. 1919-1921. He was appointed state controller control-ler in 1921, was elected to that office of-fice in 1923, and re-elected in 1927. Mr. Riley also has rendered long and faithful service in Lionism. After Af-ter serving as a club president he was elected district governor of Calif, and in 1923 was chosen on the board of international directors. He was elected third vice-president in 1926, second vice in 1927, first vice in 1928, and now president. |
