Show WHY POPPY WEEK? Seven major objects are achieved through the results of the ninth annual an-nual sale of Buddy Poppies to be conducted throughout the country during the week previous to Memorial Memor-ial Day by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. These were emphasized in an appeal voiced at national headquarters by Hezekiah N. Duff, national commander, com-mander, who points to the fact that there are more than 400,000 disabled veterans in the United States not receiving re-ceiving government compensation and existing only on limited incomes. "These are the men who have been unable to secure definite service connection con-nection proof of their disabilities," Duff explained. . "Government regulations require that every injury must be traceable through official records, ignoring the fact that it was an extremely difficult diffi-cult problem to maintain an accurate bookkeeping department in the A. E. F. "Moreover, thousands of veterans suffered from wounds and exposure to a degree that appeared to be slight at the time. In fear of becoming casuals, they passed up the chance to drop back to field hospitals for treatment. treat-ment. Therefore, there is no medical record of their disabilities. ''Advancing years have seen these disabilities develop to the point where the disabled veteran and his dependents are in sore need of assistance assist-ance and relief. As the comrades of those who sleep we have promised not to forget. By helping those who are living we are trying to keep this pledge." Proceeds of the ninth annual Buddy Bud-dy Poppy sale will make it possible for the V. F. W. to continue its program. pro-gram.
