Show Junior League' Growth Made in Thirty Years The nucleus of the present Association Associ-ation of Junior Leagues of America was the Junior league of the New York college settlement, organized by .Miss Mary Harrlman In 1900. This was followed In 1900 by the founding of a second league in Boston. Baltimore, Balti-more, Brooklyn and Philadelphia having hav-ing meanwhile Joined the ranks, the first general conference was held In 1911. In 1920 the 39 leagues then existing ex-isting were organized by Mrs. Wil-lard Wil-lard Straight (Dorothy Whitney) Into In-to the present association, and six years later a national headquarters was established In New York city, and In the following year an anthology anthol-ogy of Junior league poetry was published. pub-lished. In the same year the Bulletin, since 1912 the official organ, was converted con-verted into the Junior League Magazine. Mag-azine. There were 101 leagues In the United States, representing 39 states, and three additional leagues In Canada Can-ada In 1928. The same year a national na-tional club, with offices and exhibition exhibi-tion rooms, was established in New York city. |
