Show A Domino Trick Ask a friend to choose a double domino. Then request him to double the number of spots on It. He must then think of a second double, and add the number of spots on it to his previous multiple. Now tell him to halve the total, and then to subtract from it the number of spots on the double of which he first thought. When he tells you the figure you will be able to tell him the domino he added. It will, of course, be the double of the remainder. Appear to calculate very wisely, though, for you will give away the simplicity of the trick if you answer too quickly. In order that you may entirely ' grasp the trick I will give you an example. Suppose your friend thinks of double 1 He doubles the spots on that, and It equals 16. He theo thinks of double 3, which has, of course, G spots on it; 10 plus 0 equals 22. Half of 22 equals 11. Subtract from It the number of spots on the double first thought of (S) ; 11 minus 8 equals 3. Twice 3 equals "G, which is the number he added. '".' |
