Show DRILL THROUGH 25 " FEET OF SAND AT JAMES OIL WELL MIX SAND WITH MUD IN ORDER TO CLEAR OUT HOLE Drilling at the James oil well is now going on at a level of 3186 feet. They have been drilling in sand out there for the last 25 feet. The sand is very cavey. There is much water in the hole, and the sand does not mix so the well can be bailed. They are mudding the hole with clay, so that the drill will be able to make a hole, instead of the constant caving-in. This is the first real oil sand that the drillers have struck since work was begun at the well. There was a showing of oil sand at a level of 2,-165 2,-165 feet. At that time, the drill penetrated into much gas and a little oil. . So the- present layer of white sand looks pretty good to those who are backing the enterprise. The depth of sand which they are now in is not known. KENYON SPECIFIES GOVERNMENT NEED WANTS L-SHAPED LANDING-FIELD TO BE PROVIDED HERE J. F. Kenyon, of the Airways department de-partment of the U. S. Department of Commerce, was in Milford again this week in the further interests of the landing field. Mr. Kenyon gave in full details what the government wants the town to give them, and what will be given in return. One-,eighth of bection Thirty will be necessary for the field. There is now about 600 feet of land cleared there, but at least 2900 feet will be needed. Runways, 660 feet wide will be necessary, running run-ning both north and south, and east and west. A peculiar condition here, Ma-. Kenyon Ken-yon stated, is that the prevailing winds are not east and west, but north and south, due to the lay of the valley and mountains. Winds here approaching a sixty-mile gale are not common; the one of Tuesday being nearly of a fifty-mile velocity. The field should be L-shapel, stated stat-ed Mr. Kenyon, so as to allow for runways in both directions. In exchange for local aid, the government gov-ernment will run the electric power to the field, providing boundary lights and a beacon light for the field, in addition to the one to be placed on Baldy Hill. When completed, Mr. Kenyon declared de-clared that this field, while not approaching ap-proaching the usefulness of the great municipal fields as a commercial airport, air-port, nevertheless will make as good an all-round flying field as there is in the state of Utah. Advertising benefits to the town will be manifold, he said. He expressed himself as being deeply deep-ly appreciative of the way his request re-quest for a temporary colored marker mark-er was responded to. |
