Show FIRE HITS OUTFIT CARS TUESDAY 2 ARE DESTROYED WESTERN UNION COMPANY SUSTAINS BIG LOSS BY BLAZE CREW AWAY AT TIME A fire broke out among six outfit cars of the Western Union Telegraph company Tuesday, about eight miles north of town, and destroyed two of them. The blaze broke out at about ten o'clock in the morning, when there was no one in the cars with the exception of a woman who wasi cooking. Fanned by a high gale, the flames quickly spread. The force of men were away at the time, working on the lines. A section crew arrived on a switch engine. They managed to uncouple the cars on both sides of the fire and move them to safety. Property loss has been given at various figures from $30,000 to $50,-000. $50,-000. Quite a great deal of loss was sustained by the crew of linemen, who lost personal effects and money. The location of the cars was on a switch situated so far from Milford by highway that it was impossible' for local firemen to render any assistance as-sistance in the short time allowed. |
