Show o IS FINED S100 ON LIQUOR CHARGE Given a change of venue from Justice Rollo's court in Cedar City to Justice Bettridge's court in Paro-wan, Paro-wan, R. S. Oakes went to trial on Monday afternoon with Judge Knox representing him. Since county attorney Shay was a material witness in the case by reason of having been with the Sheriff when Oakes and his brother were arrested, deputy attorney, H. C. Parcell conducted the prosecution. A jury consisting of John H. Miller, Mil-ler, Lorin Smith, Silas J. Ward and John T. Mitchell heard the evidence and retiring came in within thirty minutes with a verdict of guilty. Justice Bettridge imposed a fine of $100 but remitted ?50 of it on condition con-dition of good behavior for a year. The other $50 was paid it is understood. under-stood. The case against his brother, L. E. Oakes.was dismissed because the prosecution didn't consider the evi-dence evi-dence justified an attempt to prose- A. cute. Parowan Times. |
