Show BAND SPONSORED BY LIONS OF DIST. 28, WINS L. A CONTEST First Prize of 500, and 100 in Stunt Contest Carried Off By Heber Band 1 Beaver and Milford Lions clubs which donated to the fund raised by Lions of District 28 to send the Wasatch Was-atch County High School band of Heber City, to the International convention con-vention at Los Angeles, were gratified grati-fied to receive word Friday that the organization had won first prize of $300, in competition over bands from all over the United States. The band also took second prize of $100 for the girls' military drill team. This 90-piece band, nearly half of whom, are girls, was enthusiastically received during the three evenings' contest held in Los Angeles. Those who had the pleasure of hearing the band at Beaver on July 16, when en-route en-route to Los Angeles, were not surprised sur-prised that they took first place at the International contention. Under the leadership of Delmar Dickson it has won three state competitions com-petitions in Utah and in 1929 was fifth in the national high school contest con-test at Denver. It also was second prize winner in the Salt Lake Covered Cover-ed Wagon celebration last year. Returning from Los Angeles tha band were entertained at a banquet at Panguitch by the Lions club of that place Sunday afternoon. Sunday Sun-day evening the musical aggregation gave a concert at Richfield and were entertained at the homes of members of the Lions club. Monday evening about 3000 people gathered St Mt. Pleasant to enjoy a concert given at the L. D. S. church grounds in that city. |
