Show FIRE DEPARTMENT SAVES DWELLING BY HASTY ACTION Quick action on the part of the Mil-ford Mil-ford Volunteer Fire Department saved the residence of Jack Davidson on the corner of Lewis and 9th Streets from complete distraction by fire Tuesday morning at nine o'clock. The blaze had gotten well under way in the kitchen of the Davidson house and as the building is a wooden structure, a slight delay would have meant its entire loss. However, the fire department arrived arriv-ed four minutes after the alarm had been turned in and had the blaze extinguished ex-tinguished fifteen minutes later. An overheated coal range caused the walls of the kitchen to ignite while Mrs. Davidson was getting breakfast for her five children. Davidson had gone to the mines and Mrs. Davidson was alone with the children and her sister, Rose Gressmen. While they were preparing breakfast break-fast they noticed smoke seeping through the ceiling and on investigation, investiga-tion, saw that the wall behind the stove was in flames. Miss Gressmen ran across the street to a neighbor's home and the alarm was telephoned. Four minutes later the fire department depart-ment arrived to find that the Davidson David-son family was already moving furniture fur-niture out of the house believing that there was slight possibility of saving the building. With the exception of a burned out flue and a burned portion of the wall, the fire caused no further damage. |
