Show WILL START SAWING MARBLE NEXT MONTH NEWHOUSE QUARRY TO BE OPENED UP Promoters of the marble quarry at Newhouse figure on starting work in June. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Moss, from southern California, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kendrick, formerly of Burbank, are the parties chiefly interested in the project. Electrically-driven saws will b used to cut the marble, which will be removed in as large blocks as possible, pos-sible, and hoisted by block and tackle into trucks to be hauled down to the railroad tracks at Newhouse. Later, it is believed that a spur line will be built direct to the quarry. ! A power line is being constructed. All the work will be by electric power; pow-er; blasting will not be done, as it is not possible to remove the marble in good shape or large bulk by this method. Such quantities that is removed in small pieces will be crushed and shipped also. Use for it is found in ornamental faces -of buildings. From twenty to thirty men will be employed on the job. Mr. and Mrs. Moss have been working at the plans for over a year and mean business. Lease on the location has been secured se-cured and equipment has been ordered. order-ed. The marble is said to exist in large quantites, and has been pronounced a very high grade material, one that takes a polish fine and is very valuable. |
