Show yj - CIRCUMSPECT An eminent minister of the gospel gave to newspapers an account of his visit at the home of Andrew Mellon, secretary sec-retary of the treasury. Hi3 best and most lasting impression impres-sion of Mr. Mellon, he says, was of the secretary's sipping a highball, remarking the while that he had to be circumspect circum-spect while doing so. "Circumspect; to look around!" It is not surprising in this queer day of prohibition that the head of the department de-partment of prohibition enforcement should have his bottle, although he may have to exercise prudence and caution in its use. However, we cannot help but think more of Mr- Mellon in his genteel breaking of the law that of the man who, after being a guest in Mr. Mellon's home, gave the above story to the newspapers. One naturally has a poor opinion of a person who would repay his host's hospitality by giving out such an inconsequential story. And we wonder if it is an uncharitable thought to ponder whether the host sat and sipped all by himself. , , r |
