Show CIVIC CLUBS WILL HOLD NEXT MEET IN WAYNE WONDERLAND The meeting of the Associated Civic clubs of Southern Utah, held at the V-T Ranch in the Kiabab forest' for-est' June 4th and 5th, according to advices received here, proved novel, interesting and demonstrated much enthusiasm. Wm. Mace and Parley Dalley of the Cedar City 'chamber of commerce, Wilson Lunt of the Cedar Lions club, Jack IChrjstensen and Dr. Parkinson of the Cedar City Rotary Ro-tary club, G. W. Hales of the St. George chamber of commerce, Mr. Sorenson and Mr. Eckersley, also of St. George, and Secretary Ben Cameron Cam-eron of Panguitch, were among the enthusiastic attendants at the meeting. meet-ing. Various committees reported on proposed highway projects in contemplation con-templation in S6uthern Utah, and particularly route 89, from Thistle to Fairview. The proposed road from Junction to Puffer's lake was also stressed and the Associated Civic clubs, favoring fav-oring the important link, went strongly on record as commending the project as it would open new and enticing vacation grounds. All roads, the convention reports indicate, are open. and many tourists are visiting Utah's only real scenic attractions. Ben Cameron, Jr., Held secretary, gave a comprehensive report of his recent visit through Sevier, Sanpete, Iron and Beaver 'counties, and he stated that the response to membership member-ship was highly gratifying. In each community he was greeted with val-unteer val-unteer workers and in most every instance the membership quota was reached. Mr. Cameron also paid a tribute to the country newspaper, declaring it was a valuable asset in exploiting the motives of the association assoc-iation and in advertising the south's scenic wonderlands. Sensing the depressed conditions and the lack of employment among many of 'the laboring classes in Southern Utah, the association took up the study of unemployment to see if some plan could be worked out whereby all could be set to work, thus affording a great relief. County commissioners of the several counties, coun-ties, likely, will be asked to meet at some place and solve this problem. The report also states that Inquiries In-quiries are being received from outside out-side travel bureaus regarding the many places of interest, aside from National parks. One group, comprising com-prising forty people from Chapel Hill N. C, will arrive in the southern part of the state, not to visit the parks but to seek other vacation points. Wayne county has extended an Invitation In-vitation to the officers and members :f the association to meet at Wayne Wonderland at the July meeting. It is planned to have Governor Dern, Senators King and Smoot, Congressman Congress-man Don Colton, Superintendent Albright and Superintendent Allen of Hryce Canyon and Zion National (parks, present at the July meeting. At that time not only the Wayne delegation but every representative from the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah will back the proposal propos-al to make Wayne Wonderland a National park. |
