Afternoon sports will be furnished by the committees and refreshments by other committees. 'The celebration will end with a big dance in the evening. Everybody invited in-vited to come and have a good time. Every one be at meeting Sunday afternoon, July 13th, to vote to 'change the name of our ward from 'Mural to Ioka or have it stay the same as it is. Quite a crowd went from Ioka to Upalco for the fourth. All enjoyed it quite well and Ioka lias invited them to join with us for the 2 4th celebration. Some of our people oil claim owned by some of our local men. They spoke very favorably and are making further investigation. investiga-tion. Altonah may soon have one oil well operating, too. Ray Case will soon have his Bhingle mill in operation. It is located locat-ed quarter mile south of town. Word has been received here of the serious illness of J. M. Millard vith no hope Tor hs recovery. This is a great shock to his many friends. Me was the founder of Altonah and 43 known throughout the basin. - Mrs. Milton Alexander is visiting Telatives indefinitely at Huntington. Mrs. Loretta Fisher, three daughters daugh-ters of Vernal, and Mrs. Dave Mar-Chant Mar-Chant of Myton were visiting Mrs. Fisher's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Caldwell. Geo. Merrick is home from Salina after helping to lay his mother at rest. He had thought of locating outside but is glad to be back for good where we have plenty of good water, crops and climate. Mr. Hyrum Marsing, who has been employed by Mr. Coltharp of Vernal for several months is visiting with his family and friends for a short time. Mr. W. R. Preece, Jr., entertained at a delicious trout and chicken dinner din-ner July fourth in honor of T. W. O'Donnell of Vernal. Covers were laid for nine. Indian Farmer Hylas Smith and famiy of Fort Duchesne, spent the fourth with us. Miss Ida Preece and Kenneth Richardson Rich-ardson left Monday for Vernal after a pleasant visit with relatives. Some of the MIdview people were over Sunday and held meeting at the school house. Everyone come to the dance Friday night at the school house. REDCAP Bishop John W. Anderson.wlfe and family of Grantsville, J. P. Mecham, Trffe and family of Hinkley are visiting visit-ing with Mrs. Arreta Holgate for a few days. Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Mecham are sisters of Mrs. Holgate. Frank Hale of MIdview' is their brother. On the fourth of July the four families held a reunion in the Lakefork grove. It has been the first time the family have all been together togeth-er for a number of years. A very enjoyable en-joyable time was spent. Max Gordon and Elmer Bates made a business trip to Utahn Saturday. The young folks of the town spent the Fourth of July over on the Duchesne Du-chesne river while the older people celebrated at Duchesne and Lakefork. Alvia Farnsworth who resides at Cedarview and who has been very $ick for some time has come to live ' with his sister Mrs. Eliza J. Gilbert. Max Gordon and Malcom Walters left for Green river Tuesday to look after their cattle. Frank Holgate was home from the sheep herd to spend the fourth. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Larsen, Mrs. Eliza J. Gilbert, Curtis and Alvia Farnsworth, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Gilbert, Gil-bert, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Ross have gone on a fishing trip. They went by the way of Tabiona. A bunch of the young people of the town went up to Moon lake to fish. IHRTFORD Julia Postina of Smithfield, Utah, is visiting with her sister Mrs. A. W. Neilsen of Hartford. Wm. McClellan and family of Pay-Bon Pay-Bon were visiting his brother H. W. McClellan of Hartford Sunday. The people of Hartford celebrated the Fourth of July on the river. A fine dinner was served after which swimming took place with" Jos. My-lor My-lor as champion swimmer and A. W. Neilson as second best. After the Eport on the river the dance was the next on the program which was well attended and a good time was had. Work of Bureau of Standards. One of the many new undertakings of the bureau of standards Is an Investigation Inves-tigation of magnetic compasses, in behalf be-half of the naval observatory, the Joint army and navy board of specifications, and the shipping board. The bureau proposes to develop a standard method of testing compasses and to prepare specifications for the purchase of compasses com-passes by the government. A special form of magnetometer ' has been de- j vised for the determination of magnetic mag-netic moment and a rotation test for pivot friction Is being developed. The bureau expects to test several thou- sand compasses In the course of the present year. spent the fourth at Mrs. Fred Pack's on the lawn and enjoyed It very much. Murel Benson spent Tuesday at his home and has gone back to the head of the ditch. There is a large crowd of men going go-ing up to Moon lake this week to try to get water. If we don't get water or rain there will not he any second crop. There were four babies blessed at meeting last Sunday. Miss Fontella Stone has gone to Vernal on a visit. Tuesday evening after going home from Beehive meeting Mrs. Ralph "Miles took suddenly ill. The doctor was called and he 6aid it was caused "partly from the heat. She was very bad for a few hours but Is better at this writing. We hope she will soon he well again. Mr. M. J. Benson is well again. Leroy Benson has come from Salt Lake on a visit. Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Pack spent the fourth at Tabiona with relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. James Now-iand Now-iand and babies, Mr. and Mrs. Eld-win Eld-win Wall and babies spent Sunday at Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Miles. UP ALCO The big celebration July fourth Avas well attended and much of a 'Success. The program was rendered in the forenoon which many enjoyed. 'Children dance at 1 p. m., then horse 'races, ball game and sports of different differ-ent kinds. There was a large crowd 'at the dance at night. Every one 'had a good time. Many from other towns were present. ..' Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dudly and 'family have returned home after Spending the Fourth and a few days with their brother and sister Mr. John T. Moon and Mrs. Katie Pitt. ' Mr. and Mrs. John Benson of Ioka stayed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Moon on the Fourth, also Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Benson at Mr. and airs. E. L. Murphy. ; Bishop E. B. Murphy has gone back on the Kamas-Stockmore road to work after spending a few days at home. Miss Erma MItchle of Ilan-hah Ilan-hah also returned home with him. The young people of Upalco have gone to the lakes for a time. Mr. Alford Mitchell has been suffering suf-fering with a fellon on his hand but is getting along nicely. Mr. Walt Smith of Wayne county who has served in the army for a year is the guest of Miss Naomi Forsythe. Mr. Robert Marshall has gone to 'Salt Lake on business. Mrs. Mary Mitchell expects to re turn to Kamas this week after spending spend-ing a week or so with relatives. Mr. Perce Potts, Wallace Elden and Fred Carroll are home after be-' be-' ing away for some time. Mr. Otto Lloyd is working on the 'Lloyd ranch in Ioka. RANDLETT Mr. Lester Harris Is moving his mother in town. A good sized crowd was at the 4th of July celebration. Everyone had a good time. Mr. and Mrs. Rice and 'Mr, Cummins of Ft. Duchesne played play-ed for the dance in the evening. Dan Shaffer of Vernal has spent several days in Randlett. President Smart attended meetin 'at the Mormon Sunday school Sun-'day Sun-'day afternoon. i Mr. Franklin Duke and his wife 'and child are visiting his father and mother. He has Just returned from France bearing a number of scars received re-ceived In battle. , Five cases of mumps are reported in Randlett. Mr. Frank McMullen and family of Leeton have been visiting In Randlett. Rand-lett. LAPOINT Mr. W. A. Brady has returned after af-ter an absence of about two months in Wyoming shearing sheep. Everybody reported a very enjoyable enjoy-able timekat the dance last Friday' night. Barth Shaffer is salesman at Davis nd Lloyd. Mr. and Mrs. Allred of Chester spent ten days here visiting their brother, Mr. Angus Nyherg. There will be a welcome home party for the soldiers next Friday night. Everybody cordially invited. Miss Zina Thompson is a Vernal visitor at present. SOLDIER SUMMIT Mr. Shearer, president of the ozocerite ozo-cerite mine, has arrived to make preparations for the reopening of the mine within the next few days. During the day of the Fourth very few people were seen on the streets. In the evening a dance was given to a capacity house. Many people celebrated cele-brated in Salt Lake and Provo. Daniel Lee and Ed Lee motored to the Uintah basin Monday to purchase pur-chase a farm. They were accompanied accom-panied by Clyde Wing who will visit with friends in Myton and later with his sister Mrs. George McKown at iLatuda. Mrs. Etta Howtz and sister, Miss Myrtle Lee of Helper, are visiting with their mother, Mrs. Etta Lee at her ranch on Whlteriver. Work on the terminal Is progressing progress-ing rapidly. More men are needed yet. It is Bald there Is only fifty percent of the force on the round (house. Mrs. Eugene Nicholes Is spending the week end with her parents in Salt Lake. Mr. William Eddie and family 'have gone on a fishing expedition into in-to the mountains. ' Stephen Johnson has gone to Helper He-lper City to attend the meeting of board of education of Wasatch county coun-ty in regards to new school building session. Miss E. Birch, Mr. Johnson's John-son's stenographer, is in charge of the office during his absence. Mrs. Pearce of Spanish Fork spent the Fourth with her daughter, Mrs. Hale. Mrs. Bunnel of Heber City is the guest of her daughter Mrs. Ed Lee. MT. HOME f On road day about 60 citizens 'turned out and accomplished a good amount of work on the roads. They were then served a lovely dinner by the commercial club. About fifteen people of Mt. Home 'attended quarterly conference in Roosevelt. They reported having a real good time and received many good instructions. A farewell party was given Clyde rRowley on June 30th. The young 'man will soon leave for a mission to the Central states. A purse of $53 dollars was given him. We wish the elder success in his labors. On July 2nd B. B. Mecham was taken seriously ill. He was taken to Roosevelt in order to undergo an operation. op-eration. On July 4 he" passed away 'with Inflamation of the bowels. Funeral Fu-neral services were held July 6 at 1 p. m. Mr. and Mrs. II. T. Spears and Mr. Luray H. Pace came to attend the funeral services of B. B. Mecham. On account of being delayed Mr. Pace did not get here in itme to attend at-tend the services. Mr. Ralph Rowley and Brig Stevenson Stev-enson left July 7 for Price. BLUEBELL The Fourth of July was a very pleasant day for everyone. A very enjoyable program was rendered at the bowery on the pleasure ground in the forenoon. Children's dance at lone and a baseball game at four and tennis was played all day as grounds 'were just fixed. The Beehive girls bought the tennis outfit a few years 'ago but are just notv getting somei 'fun out of It. Refreshments werej served all day at bowery by young ladies. They made about $15. " Orvel Stone spent the Fourth of July here. He is after his wife w ho has been visiting her mother Mrs. 'Rhoda Goodrich. They went home to Provo the 8th. ' C. D. ThacRtr's father and sister are visiting him this week. Mr. Thacker is going to move his family over on Strawberry to his father's sawmill for the rest of summer. Gard Goodrich and family are home from a pleasant outing and sheepherding. ' Vivian Powell is visiting with her 'mother "outside" but is expected home soon. I Alice Mathews is home from Lake-fork Lake-fork where she has spent a few days, i Claud Mathews has gone away to ' work. ' Water is very scarce, hardly any in ditch. Harold Warren and Porter Mer-rell Mer-rell brought the Ice cream and such 'from Roosevelt for Y. L. M. I. A. to sell on Fourth In Warren's truck. Several men are going up on Moon lak to help drain it.
