Show SMOOT BILL WOULD ALTA)W MINORS FILE OX HOMESTEAD Minors, over 18 years of age, will be permitted to take homesteads,' if congress passes a bill recently introduced intro-duced by Senator Smoot of Utah. His bill provides: ; ''That any minor of the age of 18 years or over, and otherwise qualified quali-fied under the public-land law, shall be permitted to make homestead entry, en-try, under and subject to the homestead home-stead laws of the United States; provided, pro-vided, that no minor shall be permitted permit-ted to make final proof upon such an entry or receive patent therefor until he or she shall have attained the age of 24 years; provided, further, that such entryman shall comply with all the requirements of the homestead law as to cultivation and improvement improve-ment of the land entered, but shall not be required to establish or maintain main-tain residence thereupon until he or she shall have attained the age of 21 years, and final proof upon such an entry may be submitted at any time within two years after such entryman en-tryman shall have attained the age of 24 years." |
