C Allen Wooton and Davidson Da Da- recently covered ered themselves with glory by crawling out on the treacherous melting Ice of Coal Coni Barbor Barbor Bar Bar- bor and rescued Bruce McIntyre the year old sou of ot Rev It U. J Mc Mc- Intyre The Tile buy had been heen skating and was about OO feet teet out from shore when without warning the ice gave ga way precipitating him Into the water He ne made a n game struggle to pull himself himself him him- self out but the Ice was too rotten to cling to Many people saw the boys boy's plight r but none dared venture out to his rescue as the Ice obviously would bear no mans man's weight Ladders were run out Even this Improvised bridge was precarious as by this tills time the Ice was breaking up on all sides The two scouts volunteered to attempt the rescue Davidson ldson skating out as near as he could to the ladder ludder while Wooton Wooton Wooton Woo Woo- ton crawled out on the ladder dropping dropping drop drop- ping a rope and another small ladder behind him Between them the rescuers rescuers res rl'S cuers managed to push the extra ladder ladder lad lad- der del under the drowning boy and pry him to the surface of the Ice People on the shore then hauled In the ropo rope and all three boys landed safely just justas as ns the police pollee arrived First aid was given ghen young oung Mcintyre and In the tho excitement excItement excitement ex ex- the two rescuers slipped away awny nobody having even Inquired their names Later however the young heroes were sought out though they made light of the Incident and would not permit their pictures to be published until they secured the promIse promise promise prom prom- ise Ise that the fact they were boy scouts should be he mentioned and the chief credit given to the tie organization which had given ghen them the training which had enabled ed them to do the good turn Both bo boys s 's have been scouts for over five years Davidson Is troop leader leather of ot the Fifth mountaineers and a Kings King's scout a rank corresponding somewhat to the Eagle of the Boy Scouts of America Wooton Is an assistant scoutmaster of the Sixth Vancouver troop |
