On ono occnslon Sherman was arguing argu-ing a case against Nathan Smith, a very able, hut rather coarso lawer. Mr. Smith had discussed tho question of law with the subtlety for which he was distinguished. Mr. Sherman said to the scourt that ho thought his brother Smith's metaph)Blcs were out ot place In that discussion; thnt he wns not averse to such refinement at proper time, and would be willing on a fit occasion, tocnop logic and split hairs with him.
