Show VETOES REFERENDUM. Governor of Utah Sets Seal of Disapproval Disap-proval on Measure. Salt Lake City. On the grounds that the operation of the law would be too expensive, that It was unnecessary unneces-sary and that there was considerable doubt as to its constitutionality, Gov. William Spry sent the initiative and referendum bill to the secretary of state on March 23 with his disapproval. disap-proval. The bill was one of the pet measures of the Democrats in the recent re-cent session of the legislature and was introduced by Representative Dan Shields of Salt Lake. It passed the house by a vote of 34 to 11 and the senate by a vote of 10 to 7, and provided that the initiative might be invoked on petition to the legislature of 12 per cent of the qualified voters of the state. |
